The 30 faculty members of UCI Beckman Laser Institute & Medical Clinic span 15 departments in the UCI Schools of Medicine, Engineering, Physical Sciences and Biological Sciences.
The Institute engages over 100 people every year in research and training, including visiting scientists, postdoctoral and medical fellows, graduate and medical students, undergraduates and high school students. The Institute hosts over 500 individuals for educational courses and workshops; collaborative studies and meetings; informative clinic and laboratory tours and special lectures, events and demonstrations.
The Medical Clinic has over 2,500 patient visits annually with more than 90,000 patient visits since the opening of the Institute.
UCI Beckman Laser Institute & Medical Clinic enrolls over 400 subjects in more than 40 clinical protocols annually evaluating biophotonics technologies in skin diseases, cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and metabolic disease, trauma and critical care, ophthalmology, neurologic function, head and neck surgery and exercise medicine.
Since its establishment, UCI Beckman Laser Institute & Medical Clinic has generated 6% of the UCI technology transfer portfolio, 39% of the campus patent royalty revenue and $56 million for the University of California (UC) technology transfer portfolio.
Last fiscal year, the Photonic Incubator submitted approximately 18 patent applications with approximately 7 patents awarded and hosted 7 spin-out, incubating and collaborative companies.
