Fei Xia
Assistant Professor, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science
Dr. Fei Xia serves as Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. She is a pioneering researcher at the intersection of optics, computation, and neuroscience. Her work centers on developing cutting-edge optical systems that image, sense, and process biomedical information through innovative light-based technologies. Through the strategic co-design of hardware and software solutions, Dr. Xia addresses complex biomedical challenges and advances our understanding of living biological systems.
Dr. Xia’s research program focuses on enhancing imaging precision across spatial and temporal dimensions to unlock new possibilities in biomedical imaging. Her laboratory is particularly dedicated to brain imaging, recognizing the brain’s critical role as both a regulator of health and the source of human intelligence. This focus drives the development of more precise diagnostic tools and discovery platforms that advance both neuroscience research and neurological medicine.
Her innovative contributions to the field have earned Dr. Xia numerous prestigious recognitions, including the 2024 Rising Star in Light Award, the 2023 Optica Foundation Challenge Award, the 2022 Seal of Excellence for Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship, the 2022 SPIE Women in Optics Award, the 2020 Data Open Championship, and the 2019 Mong NeuroTech Fellowship.
Dr. Xia brings a strong international research background to her work, having completed her Ph.D. at Cornell University and her postdoctoral research at École Normale Supérieure (ENS) in Paris, France.
